Joint Entrance Exam - Advanced (JEE Advanced) 2020


Summary IIT Delhi is going to conduct the JEE Advanced 2020 on May 17 and the result of the entrance exam wil be announced on June 8, 2020.

As per the schedule available on the official portal, the seat alocation process for JEE Advanced wil tentatively start from June 17, 2020.

This year, some new decisions have been taken by the IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB).
One of which is that the number of candidates shortlisted for JEE Advanced has been increased by 10,000.

Earlier, 2,40,000 candidates were alowed to appear for JEE advanced but now 2,50,000 candidates wil be shortlisted to take the exam.

Another key decision is to hold the JEE Advanced exam in the United States for the first time.

A JEE Advanced examination centre wil be set up in San Francisco area to serve this purpose.

JEE Advanced is conducted every by either of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) namely

IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee or Indian Institute of the

(IISc) Bangalore under the aegis of the Joint Admission Board (JAB).

Admissions to Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s and Dual Degree programs (entry at the 10 2 level) in al the 23 IITs including the Indian School of Mines (ISM) are done based

         On ranks obtained by candidates in JEE Advanced 2020.


Through JEE Advanced, candidates can secure admissions to the folowing courses: 4-year Bachelors - BTech , BS 5 year BArch 5 year Dual Degree - BTech, MTech , BS, MS

JEE Advanced 2020 application forms are likely to be available in the first week of May.
On May 17, the entrance test wil be held in two shifts: 9 am to 12 noon and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Candidates have to register themselves online for the computerbased entrance test.

There wil be two mandatory papers based on a predefined JEE Advanced sylabus released by the conducting authorities.

The JEE Advanced 2020 admit cards wil tentatively be made available for the candidates to download from the second week of May and the result of JEE Advanced 2020

Admissions to IITs wil be through counseling conducted by the Joint Seat Alocation Authority (JoSAA) based on ranks obtained by candidates in JEE Advanced.

Candidates who have cleared JEE Main wil be able to apply for JEE Advanced for admission to the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) in India.

It may be noted that only the top 2.50 lakh JEE Main qualifiers wil be eligible to apply for JEE Advanced.

However, the total number of candidates may be a bit higher than 2.45 because of 'tied' ranks/scores in each category.

In 2019, JEE Advanced was conducted on May 27 across 155 cities in India and 6 cities abroad.

The exam was held in online (computer-based test) mode in two shifts:- Paper 1 (09:00 am to 12:00 pm) & Paper 2 (02:00 pm to 05:00 pm).

JEE  Advanced  Eligibility  Criteria  2020


      I – Performance in JEE Main 2020 Candidates who fal among the top 2,50,000 rankers in JEE Main 2020 across al categories are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.

In the procedure OR authorized an IIT seat by reporting at a reporting centre in the past.

Out of this number, the percentage of competitors qualified for admissions under various categories are as fo lows: General category candidates (from the common merit list) – 46.5% General

EWS - 4% OBC-NCL candidates – 27% SC candidates – 15% ST candidates – 7.5% PWD candidates - Horizontal reservation of 5% in al the above categories Note: The total

number of competitors can be barely considerable than 2,50,000 in the presence of “tied” ranks/scores in any category.

II – Age limit General or OBC-NCL category candidates born on or after October 1, 1995, can apply for the exam.

However, the age limit for SC, ST or PwD category candidates has been relaxed.

SC, ST or PwD candidates born on or after October 1, 1990, wil be eligible for the exam.

III – Number of attempts A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced for a maximum of two times in two consecutive years IV – Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent)

Examination Candidates can appear for this engineering entrance exam if they have appeared for their Class XII or equivalent exam for the first time in 2019 or 2020.

V – Earlier admission at IITs/ISM V – Earlier admission at IITs/ISM A candidate should NOT have been admitted in an IIT irrespective of whether or not he/she continued

Candidates whose admission at IITs was canceled after joining any IIT are also not eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2020.

The candidates who paid seat acceptance fee in 2019 but (i) did not report at any reporting centre OR, (i) withdrew before the last round of seat alotment, OR,

(i) had their seat canceled (for whatever reason) before the last round of seat alotment for IITs, during the joint seat alocation in 2019 are eligible to appear in

      Nonetheless, in any of the above prosecutions, the candidate is expected to fulfil the circumstances mentioned from criterion 1 to criterion 4.

JEE Advanced Admission Criteria 2020 Aspirants who wil qualify JEE Advanced 2020 exam have to fulfil at least one of the given below criteria for admission to bachelor’s programmes,

Integrated master’s programmes and dual degree programmes at IITs: Candidates must have secured a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.

The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PWD marks should be at least 65% Candidates should be within category-wise Top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class

JEE Advanced 2020 admission process


 JEE Advanced 2020 admission process includes the folowing steps: STEP 1: JEE Advanced 2020 Registration/ Filling the online application form The first step towards appearing

in JEE Advanced 2020 exam wil be filing the online application form.

Candidates can register for JEE Advanced 2020 even if they do not opt to give the examination while registering for JEE Main 2020.
JEE Advanced application cannot be withdrawn after the registration process has been completed by the candidate.

STEP 2: JEE Advanced 2020 Admit cards After the registration process for JEE Advanced gets over, candidates can download their JEE Advanced armit card from the official online registration

      At the time of JEE 2020 Advanced registration, candidates can select from a list of exam centres and the address of the examination centre.

The same wil be displayed on their admit card.
Candidates wil be asked to produce a copy of their downloaded admit card at the time of examination.

The original JEE Advanced admit card must be retained by the candidates til al the admission formalities of the exam are completed.

STEP 3: JEE Advanced 2020 Results JEE Advanced 2020 results wil be announced on June 8, 2020.

        The exam result comprises a candidate’s score in the exam and qualifying status.

       Candidates wil be able to check their JEE Advanced 2020 results on the official website of IIT Delhi.

IIT Delhi under the guidance of JAB wil be conducting JEE Advanced in 2020 and wil also be responsible for the release of exam results.

        The admission notification states that the candidates wil be shortlisted for admission in bachelor’s, integrated master’s and dual degree programmes on offer at the 23 IITs programmes

The IIT Council in the year 2016 introduced a few changes in the JEE Advanced admission criteria.

The primary change here included that to be eligible for admissions at the IITs and ISM, candidates had to fulfil any one of the below mentioned two criteria

                          The  candidate  should fal within the  categoryy-wise  top 20  percentile of successful candidates in his/her  respective  Class  XII (or  equivalent)  board  examination. The  competitor  should have  conserved 75%  (for GEN  or OBC-NCL)  or 70%  (SC,  ST  or PwD)  of  total  marks  in the  Class  XII (or  equivalent)  commission  examination. Zone  wise  JEE  Advanced  Exam  Centres  2020 JEE  Advanced exam  centres  are  divided into  seven zones  namely,  IIT  Delhi,  IIT  Guwahati,  IIT  Bombay,  IIT,  Kharagpur,  IT Roorkee,  IIT  Kanpur,  and IIT  Madras.  Candidates  wil be  asked to  choose  their zone  basis  their  preference,  at  the  time  of filing  the  JEE  Advanced 2020  application form.  In 2019,  JEE  Advanced was  conducted across  155  cities  in India  and 6  cities abroad. 

        JEE Advanced Student ReactionsJEE Advanced 2020 notification is yet to be released by the exam conducting authorities. Till then, candidates can check thereaction of students for the JEE Advanced 2019 paper.The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee conducted JEE Advanced 2019 exam on May 27. The exam was spreadover two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. While Paper 1 was held from 9 am to 12 noon, Paper 2 was conducted from 2 pm to5 pm.  JEE Advanced 2019 received a mixed reaction from students. While some thought the paper was very tough, othersbelieved that the paper was of an easy to moderate level. Most of the students shared the Paper 2 of JEE Advanced 2019was the toughest of all years.

Internet  Explorer  (version  11  and  above),  Mozilla  Firefox  (version  50  to  61)  or  Google  Chrome  (version 50  to  69)  are some of  the  preferred web browsers  to  fil JEE  Advanced application form.  Before  filing  the  registration forms,  candidates should  be  ready  with a  high-speed internet  connection.  Also,  candidates  are  advised not  to  fil JEE  Advanced registration form on mobile.

                  Before  filing  the  JEE  Advanced registration form,  candidates  should read al the  instruction thoroughly.           These  should be the  same  as  entered during  JEE  main 2020  registrations.  Infact,  the  required details  wil be  displayed on the  screen in 'Readonly'  mode. Besides  the  above  details,  candidates  wil be  required to  fil some  additional fields  in JEE  Advanced Registration form. 

        Step  2  –  Uploading  documents At  this  step,  aspirants  need to  upload the  above  listed scanned certificates  in the  required format. 

       Step  3 –  Payment  of  JEE Advanced registration fees The  third step is  to  pay  JEE  Advanced registration fee.  The  fee  can be  online  as  wel as  offline. Payment  of  JEE Advanced registration fees  through Online  Mode To  pay the  registration fee  through this  mode,  candidates  wil be  redirected to  State  Bank  Multi Option Payment  System (MOPS)  page.  At  this  stage,  you need to  choose  from  options  -  Debit  Card/  Credit  Card/  Net  Banking.  After you pay  the fee  successfuly,  a  unique  registration  number  wil be  generated.  Aspirants  can take  a  printout  of  this  unique  number along  with the  their  registration  details. 

            Payment  of  JEE Advanced registration fees  through Offline  Mode To  pay JEE  Advanced registration fees  via  offline  mode,  aspirants  wil have  to  select  “SBI  Branch”  to  generate  the  chalan at  the  payment  stage.  Aspirants  can pay  the  registration fees  by  using  a  printout  of  this  chalan at  any  SBI  branch by paying  cash.  

           After  making  the  payment,  aspirants  wil have  to  enter  payment  details  to  generate  unique  registration number.  Now,  they  wil be  required to  take  a  printout  of  their  registration details  along  with the  unique  number. Payment  by SAARC  and Non-SAARC  Exam  Centre  Candidates These  aspirants  can pay  the  fees  on the  MOPS  page  by  using  International Debit/  Credit  Card as  issued by  Foreign Banks outside  India.  

                             Payments  made  in US$  is  not  alowed through Debit/Credit  Cards  issued in India.  After  successful payment of  the  fees,  aspirants  wil be  able  to  print  the  “Registration Details”  with Unique  Registration Number.
